About the Artist
Artist Statement
My journey so far...

From my early teens in the sixties, I can remember wandering the Ohio woods and countryside sketching and painting. Gratefully supplied and encouraged by a beloved art teacher in those early years, that journey continues. I believe that all of life has an impact and Influence upon our creativity, and continues to as we change and grow.
I have always struggled to find the words to communicate about art adequately. Words to convey something I find elusive and intangible belies the very reason I paint. Perhaps my daughter summed it best when she said, “You are an artist because if you tried not to be, it would leak out of you.” I feel that Art should capture something that words alone cannot.
While I gravitate towards oil painting and pastels, I love the excitement and challenge of different mediums and the unique voice that each has. Whether painting en plein air or in my studio, my goal is a spiritual interpretation of life around and within, not purely representational . I am continually mesmerized by the play of light and shadows, the subtle illusion of ever changing shapes and the emotive qualities of color — like chasing the elusive reality within a dream.
“When you see fog move against a backdrop of deep pines, you don’t see fog itself, but the streaks of clearness floating across the air in dark shreds. So I see only tatters of clearness through a pervading obscurity.” Annie Dilliard “pilgrim at Tinker Creek”
